The Gold Rush began when the adventurers Rogahn and Zelligar discovered an ancient dwarven map which depicted [The Brown Range]] some sixty-three years ago. With financial backing from Duke Kerren Firedrake, they outfitted a ship and a small band of henchmen and soldiers to explore the area. The map led them to the location of The Red Mine. They cleared its depths of monsters. Afterward, they brought in laborers to found Fort Talmadge and build Rogahn’s Keep. Kerren brought in a small army, and together they cleared surrounding regions of humanoids and other monsters. Settlers came to the region. Some were farmers, others were prospectors, yet others were adventurers.

For about ten years, the area prospered. Then Rogahn and Zelligar moved north in search of further adventures. Savage humanoids and other monsters began to raid farms and caravans. The demon Torazc and his humanoids beseiged Rogahn’s Keep. The War of Preservation had begun.
